The bus is late, the baby is late, the rent is late or dinner is late. Anxiety mostly concerns the future, though people also worry about the past. But anxiety actually only occurs in the present tense and has done so since we worried about crawling back into the sea (from which we probably emerged in the first place to avoid another source of anxiety.)
