Beau Crème, 80s presenter extraordinaire, is back to narrate the highs and lows of his career alongside all the shows we know and love from the 50s to the present day. This time, he has a more hi-tech setup: a cluster of TV screens showing talking heads and classic small-screen highlights from each decade, that also serve as interactive props. Red Paul’s hapless 70s presenter falling foul of a dessert-based contraption on-screen is gruesome but hilarious!
Favourites like the 70s double-act Potts and Pans are back along with a surprising 90s cameo, and with the over-commercialisation of that era comes a whole new range of ill-advised Beau merchandise and a video game that involves a willing volunteer…
The audience interaction remains excellent, with brand-new Crème Delight game Crazy Cow descending into predictable manic Beau disaster amid some very period-appropriate prizes; the chequebook and pen brought back memories for me! While I missed some of the older material that was cut, the new characters and sketches fitted in nicely.
Rory has put a lot of work into his crazy telly world and the makeover has really paid off. On TV’s latest iteration is, to quote 00s telly fashionista Bandrew St. Jude, flawsome.
