Will BF blasts off again with a new version of his 2024 show…
Now in the livelier late-night surroundings of Underbelly, it’s almost sold out when I take my seat for the sci-fi B-movie DVD extravaganza. No expense has been spent on the costumes and props, but that’s exactly the charm of it; the old-school OHP credits rolling on acetate, the cardboard android WD-40, and Houston the rat with his poorly hidden squeaker are all very apt for one of the worst sequels of all time. Will’s tongue-in-cheek delivery is perfect for the job, and he’s not above mocking the audience for poor suggestions!
Many old favourites are back on the on-stage telly, like talking heads Missy Sippy, Dirt Pringles and blue screen abuser Alvin Anderchip-Munx. I was delighted to see that washed-up actor Orson Carte’s chopped-up wine advert had returned! There’s some new additions though: motion capture artist ‘Andy Circuits’ roaming among the audience and moulding himself into ‘flawless’ CGI figures. The most anticipated upgrade since 2024, though, had to be goldfish sidekick Swimothy, whose glow-up includes a musical number.
Audience participation is at the heart of Moon Team, and the volunteers were very up for it; my partner was chosen alongside alien hacker ‘Ony Bowenoo’ to save the day and it was a wild ride! Afterwards we were lucky enough to be some of the first to see the official merchandise, naturally packaged in a DVD case.
Will BF has perfected his kitsch homage to bad films and fully deserves the sold-out crowds that will no doubt come.
