Musical comedian Friz Frizzle was supposed to do a show about their ‘big knee’, but a medical emergency had other plans…

The opening homage to bread delivery to the tune of a Thompson Twins classic is deceptively cheerful, as much of Friz’s material is pretty dark: their health issues, unemployment and homelessness. In the hands of another comedian this might not work, but in the back room of a pub with a tiny keyboard and Friz’s skills it’s hilarious.
From a peripheral neuropathy diagnosis, type II diabetes and an unexpected comeback for a Civil War illness, Friz tackles these calamities with acerbic wit and a bucketload of puns. You’ll definitely never hear some pop songs the same way again; Robbie Williams-meets-Leonard Cohen was a highlight, and the Muppet Show theme gets a lyrics change that Jean Valjean would be proud of.
There’s a serious message underneath the jokes, that anyone who’s dealt with the DWP or medical malpractice will sympathise with; mostly, though, you’ll leave with sore cheeks and an incredibly macabre earworm punchline to a running Chappell Roan gag.
Friz Frizzle is one of the best discoveries from my 2025 Fringe, and I’d urge comedy-hunters to see their show immediately.
