Edinburgh Zoo’s Christmas Nights

Light up your winter

Who doesn’t like exploring somewhere after hours? The animals may be sleeping, but the grounds of Edinburgh Zoo are alive, once again, this winter inviting visitors to follow a bright and twinkling light trail by (hopefully) moonlight.

In our family bubble of five, we imagined our way to the Arctic behind a sheet of ice, down a candy cane and nutcracker avenue, through a fairy-light glowing tunnel, and over an Artic bridge – complete with light and sound projections: everything from dancing elves to prowling polar bears.

At Penguins Rock – where the circular moon is reflected magically in the water – we peered through the darkness and could just spy some curious penguins watching us watching them in the dark.

After a warming hot chocolate (lots of other snacks available!) we wandered on through the Enchanted Ice Forest bringing us past Santa’s Workshop and through a market village of goodies to eat and gifts to buy. There, you can also book Storytime with Mrs Claus.

And if you’re as lucky as we were, the real moon and stars will twinkle down on you as well.

Christmas Nights, a fully family-friendly experience, runs from Friday 20th November to Sunday 3rd January. Social distancing and safety measures are all in place, with staggered entry at 15 minute intervals.
