Botanic Lights

Christmas at the Botanics opened on Friday, 2 November 2019 for 30 spectacular nights at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh.

This year’s event is even more spectacular than ever; over one million twinkling lights, more than 4500 metres of cabling, 250 metres of garlands, 4480 candles and 60 Moroccan lamps.

This was my first ever visit to Christmas at the Botanics and I can’t believe that this event has passed me by for so long.  I followed the trail with amazement and wonder at today’s technology – I was staring at the images before me with my mouth wide open with what I can only describe as excitement!

The music accompanying the installations was also perfect and was so right every time.  I should say that these feelings looked to be shared with my fellow trail-ers, regardless of age.

Every part of the journey was fabulous although the Voyage really stood out.  I was memorised by the origami boats on the water – looking at the ever-changing coloured lighting made me so stress-free and calm.

The Laser Garden felt very sci-fi. The green laser lights dancing off the trees and shrubbery; the mystic fog making us slightly disorientated.

Dear Santa was a delight to watch.  The projections accompanied by festive music certainly got you in the Christmas Mood!
