I first saw Meow Meow when she appeared two years ago with another Melbourne citizen, Barry Humphries, at the Usher Hall.
Her rich, deep voice was impressive. This time she’s at The Hub in her own show “Little Mermaidâ€, a wild, vivid cabaret that has not much more than a fishtail connection with the original Andersen story.
Meow Meow is looking for love and happiness, while swinging suspended in the air or singing upside down in mid-flight. She is plumbing the depths in her flippers, while her powerful voice fills the theatre with glorious sound.
She is acrobatic, funny, and ably backed by a five piece band The Siren Effect Orchestra. Some love interest in the shape of Chris Ryan eventually appears, and three lucky fellows from the audience have their part to contribute. Paul Jackson’s lighting is stunning, atmospheric.
Panache, splash, and body-surfing -it’s all here. This is a fun show.
