Mother’s Day Treats

Mothering Sunday, which falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, has its roots in the Christian church and is thought to derive from the practice of visiting one’s mother church annually on Laetare Sunday. When young women were in service, it was a rare opportunity for families to be reunited. The American Mother’s Day became more about showing appreciation to one’s mother and has become a time (you might say of commercialisation) to give gifts of flowers or chocolates.

Most mothers I’m sure, would prefer time spent with their children, and homemade cards and gifts, but for those who live further away and can’t be there to bring their Mums a cup of tea in bed, here are a few suggestions.
