A Basketful of Snowflakes – Peter Kerr

This is the fourth book in Peter Kerr’s series on life as an orange farmer in the entrancing Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca. It’s the peak of the orange harvesting season and hard facts have to be faced.

Will the work invested in restoring the finca provide them with a decent living, or will their dream turn out to be a financial nightmare? Will Peter’s aptitude for mañana-ness delay their home improvement projects indefinitely, or will long suffering Ellie get her new swimming pool? Will 19 year old Sandy return to Scotland, while young Charlie is seduced by Mallorca’s super-rich yachting set?

Based on East Lothian-based Peter Kerr’s own experiences, the books make an amusing read. Despite encounters with wry customs officers and wily tradesmen, the Kerrs’ sense of humour remains irrepressible and the versatility of the musician turned record producer, turned farmer turned writer is inspiring. With no fear of failure, the Kerrs live life as it is meant to be lived.
