Christmas is the time of year when everyone should get what they want, and all should be left feeling warm and satisfied. At the cinema it’s no different, with December traditionally being an ideal month for every possible type of cinemagoer, the multiplexes packed with films of every genre. Sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you’ll end up finding somewhere that times their programmes so perfectly that you can dump the kids in the capable hands of some talking cartoon animals for a couple of hours while the parents sneak off for something more to their tastes.

Clint Eastwood, more than any other man still alive, epitomises American cinema. He is a genuine living legend, and has excelled at pretty much everything cinematic that he’s turned his hand to – from acting to directing, and even writing the music for his movies. As such, it’s very easy to forget that Clint owes Hollywood nothing for his successes. When he was trying to make his name as an actor, the American studios left him playing second fiddle on an uninspiring TV show.
