Walks and Rides In Edinburgh and The Lothians

Midlothian Walking Festival

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Walking Festival, Midlothian Ranger Service is again offering the opportunity to discover Midlothian’s beautiful countryside in four days of led walks, cycle and horse rides between Friday 14 to Monday 17 August.

With 16 guided walks, one guided cycle and one guided horse trail, the festival offers local people and visitors a unique opportunity to explore Midlothian’s rich and varied countryside.  Routes will take in landscapes as varied as the picturesque Esk Valleys, the upland areas of the Pentland Hills and the Moorfoots, a number of Country Estates and various reservoirs.

All events are led by experienced guides and many of the excursions will offer a fascinating insight into Midlothian’s varied wildlife and rich cultural heritage.

Councillor Wilma Chalmers, Cabinet Member for Commercial Services said:  “The idea behind the festival is to promote Midlothian’s countryside and to encourage people to enjoy exercise in the outdoors. Judging by the feedback last year the programme offers just that opportunity.  There is something for everyone – with walks from 6 – 12.5 miles – and all the events are free of charge so I would urge everyone to get booked in to at least one of the events.”

For more information or to book a place call Midlothian Ranger Service on 01875 821990.  For all events, booking is essential and must be made by Friday 7th August.
