Walk the Walk with Playtex

Playtex is the headline sponsor of The Playtex MoonWalk London 2009 for the tenth year running – and to celebrate, held a special in-store event at their Outlet store in Livingston, throughout October 2008.


The health charity Walk the Walk have held The MoonWalk Edinburgh annually since 2006 and are delighted that their walkers have raised almost £7 million.

This money has enabled Walk the Walk to grant funds towards building another much needed Maggie’s Centre in Glasgow, funds have also helped Maggie’s develop a way to take advice and support to cancer patients in the Highlands and Islands .Also benefiting is The Breast Cancer Institute at The Western General in Edinburgh who have already started refurbishing wards and administrative offices causing a buzz and lifting moral throughout the whole department.

Walk the Walk have their own special project of placing Scalp Coolers in all hospitals to remove the postcode lottery that exists at present and to enable all cancer patients the choice of this treatment which is proving to have very successful results in helping patients to keep their hair whilst undergoing chemotherapy. In Scotland scalp coolers are already in use in Gartnavel Glasgow, Isle of Skye, Inverclyde hospital Greenock, Alexandria, Kilmarnock and Ayr.

Nina Barough CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk whose Grandparents are from Wishaw and Motherwell, discovered that she had breast cancer just before setting up Walk the Walk is thrilled that her charity is making such a difference to peoples lifestyle completing the Full Moon (26.2 miles ) or the Half Moon ( 13.1 miles), Power Walking the streets of Edinburgh at Midnight takes a lot of training and determination making people healthier. Walkers take part from all sections of the country, congregations from churches, government ministers, groups from gyms and those just wanting to get fit, age range from 13 to 80 years of age.

The motto of this breast cancer charity is to raise money, raise awareness, get fit and have fun and certainly in Scotland they are doing this to the full.
