Roadworks on City Bypass for 10 Days
A720 Edinburgh City Bypass - Baberton to Dreghorn
ROADWORKS START MONDAY 25th FEBRUARY
Motorists are advised that resurfacing works are to take place on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, between the Baberton and Dreghorn junctions. Works will start on Monday 25th February and are expected to continue for 10 days.
The works involve the resurfacing of a 200 metre section of the hard shoulder and the two traffic lanes of the eastbound carriageway, together with some associated drainage and safety fencing works.
Traffic management will see two lanes being maintained during the working day, including the morning and evening peak periods. Between 1930hrs and 0630hrs, traffic will be reduced to one lane for eastbound traffic while two lanes will remain open for westbound traffic. A speed limit of 40mph will also be in place to allow the works to be carried out safely.
To lay the final surface course, the eastbound carriageway between the Calder and Dreghorn junctions will be closed for 1 night only. A diversion route will be in place and motorists are advised to follow the diversion signs. This is expected to be overnight on Wednesday 27th or Thursday 28th of February.
The works are being carried out after consultation with City of Edinburgh Council and Lothian and Borders Police.
Trevor McIlhatton, Transport Scotland’s Area Manager, said: “The works have been planned to cause as little inconvenience to drivers as possible. However given the volume of traffic - about 40,000 vehicles per day - some delays are unavoidable. I would ask that drivers are patient during these necessary works and plan their journey, checking the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”
John Murphy, BEAR Scotland’s Director for the South East Unit, said: “Given the likely disruption to traffic, I would advise all motorists to plan their journeys in advance and consider taking alternative routes where possible. Further detailed traffic management updates will be provided as the works progress.”
The work will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and Aggregate Industries on behalf of Transport Scotland. BEAR Scotland will also be supervising the scheme.
