Use Water but Don’t Waste it
As the summer approaches more people are thinking about easy ways to store water for the garden. In Scotland we are less likely to suffer from droughts than in the south but the possibility of a hose pipe ban is still there. Crocus have a range of products to help, from pumps to rainwater storage facilities. On special offer at the moment is the Harcostar Water Butt – which holds a massive 700 Litres. save £52.61 off the RRP of £282.60. Made from tough reinforced plastic, it measures 65×150x85cm high and includes a tap and screw-on cap.
If you fancy something a bit more aesthetic, how about the Mossgreen Beehive Water Butt, pictured left? This waterbutt allows you to save rainwater without having to compromise the overall appearance of your garden. Though styled to look like a large urn, it’s made from plastic and makes a pleasing feature in its own right. It can hold 150 litres and comes with black rubber lid and black tap. At the moment you can save £10.00 off the RRP of £69.99
If space is at a premium, there’s a neat Wall Tank which holds 650 Litres. With a depth of only 50 cm, it stands tight on the wall using up little room. It can even be covered by a climber making it nearly invisible. Yet it still holds 650 litres (143 galls), about 70 watering cans worth! To Fill your Wall-Tank safely use a downpipe filter, not just a diverter. It will not block so easily, and you get a better water quality. Water can be taken out of one of two outlets, the higher for the watering can, the lower for the hosepipe. (Both 3/4inch) At the moment you can save £75.00 off the RRP of £375.00.
Even cheaper and requiring no installation is the DroughtBuster, a simple and legal way of using your garden hose during a hosepipe ban. By reusing bath, shower or sink water you can make sure your garden is always green and your car is clean. The DroughtBuster uses natural atmospheric pressure to move used water from your bath or sink to your garden or water butt. It is incredibly simple and has no mechanical parts that can break down. Just high quality, robust, uncomplicated components that have been rigorously tested. £19.99

Cicerone guides are generally informative in every way, well presented and affordable. Susan Falconer’s guide, which features 30 walks in the Pentland Hills, is a perfect example. Susan Falconer herself has been a countryside ranger with the Pentland Hills Ranger Service since 1995, so there isn’t much she doesn’t know about these hills. The book is full of information both useful (necessary) and fascinating, with historical and fanciful anecdotes as well as points of interest on flora and fauna and the well worth considering “best walked clockwise if the wind is from the west!” Lothian Life still has 3 copies of Cicerone’s super guide to the Pentlands worth £10.99 to give away.
We’ll be back next week with more bargains and ideas. Do bear in mind that the offers mentioned here may only be available for a limited time or while stocks last, so click quick to make sure! Meanwhile Click here to read our Guide to Internet Shopping
