The Outdoor Diary

Available free of charge from Monday 2 April, the 2007 edition of the
Outdoor Diary is a non-profit publication and website that promotes outdoor events for adults and children of all ages in Edinburgh, Lothians and the Scottish Borders.

With more than 40 local organisations contributing over 400 events to it, the diary is the one-stop-shop for anybody interested in outdoor life and environmental conservation in Edinburgh, Lothians and the Scottish Borders. There are numerous events for all age groups, from nursery to adult.

Now in its fourth year of publication, and with a print run of 50,000, the diary is a testament to how committed these regions are to promoting understanding, appreciation and use of their unique, world-renowned landscapes.

Particularly timely are workshops in sustainable craft skills such as woodland bodging, medicinal plant use, composting and DIY solar heating. April events also include wildlife tracking, birding, pond-dipping and toad spotting; watching and working with farmers during lambing season; gardening at the Royal Botanic Gardens and helping conservationists in the Pentlands.

Also in the programme are rambles and bike tours lead by experts in archaeology, geology, local history, sustainable land-use, and plants and animals.

“The Outdoor Diary is an invaluable aid to all those who like getting out into the open air in and around Edinburgh . . . Every child, teacher, youth worker, pensioner and parent should have a copy,” says Robin Harper, MSP.

The Outdoor Diary will be available from libraries, Tourist Information Centres, Visitor Centres, local Ranger Services, Community Centres, and EAE leaflet racks throughout Edinburgh, Lothians and the Borders.
